January 2013 Favourites

We’ve compiled all the things we’ve loved for the month of January 2013 – be it accessories, fashion or hijabs. What are your favourites?

1. Drop Pocket Boyfriend Cardigan by New Look

Jan2013Fav3These extremely baby soft cardigan is too die for. Literally. They come in a variety of colors but the two that we love the most are navy blue and dark red.

The sizes are also generous starting from UK 6 to 16. As these cardigan have no front buttons and are in fact meant to be slouchy (hence the name “boyfriend”), it’s better to buy one size up than your usual. This is so that you can use the two sides can at least cover your chest. Pair it with a striped t-shirt or tank top and jeans for a casual day out.

Tip: If you do plan on wearing it with a tank top/sleeveless top, be wary when the wind blows. Since there are no buttons, the sides can blow off and show some underarm. Instead, bring the two pieces to the front and adorn a cute brooch to fasten them down.

Quick Tip: Hijab Storage Ideas

Looking for ideas to revamp your hijab storage? Here’s some tips from Amena, owner and founder of Pearl Daisy

Out with the old, in with the new.

Periodically clear your stash of hijabs that you have not reached for every quarter. Like they say, out of sight, out of mind. If you don’t seek it, you don’t miss it (I just made that up!)

There’s no point in hoarding hijabs that you no longer use. The only thing they do is take up storage. By clearing them periodically, you’ll have room for new hijabs with the same space.

You can donate the unused hijabs to charity or give them away to your family and friends. You can also make a fun get-together out of it. Get your gal pals together and swap hijabs over tea and biscuits. Someone else’s trash can become someone’s treasure.

The dividers that you see in the video can be purchased from Daiso for only $2. I believe it comes in different widths too.

Happy storing!

The Muslim Woman’s Guide to Fashion: Cardigans

Somewhat similar to the layering concept, you can add cardigans to create dimensions and textures to your outfit. There are literally tons of cardigan styles from the basic knit cardigan to the long ones to add height.

How do I decide?

You should at least invest in a basic cardigan that can go with just about anything and everything. It also helps that if you are in a bit of jam with time, you can simply throw the pieces together without having to think which ones match. Make that a brown or even a mustard cardigan.

The Muslim Woman’s Guide to Fashion: Maxi Dresses

Here in Singapore, we’re blessed with tropical weather all year round, except for when flash floods comes to town. Every other day is a hot summer’s day, making it a great excuse to wear your maxi dresses.

Maxi dresses are pretty much long dresses that come in various prints, colours and fabrics to suit the common gal. Since dressing modestly is all about concealing the necessary, maxi dresses are definitely up our alley (that rhymes!).
